Disconnect to Reconnect
Technology changed everything. it made our work easier than before. Less effort to do in work that can be done with the use of gadgets and less time we can spend. When we feel bored, sometimes the presence of technology is the one that we are going to use to have some entertainment. We value technology on its positive purpose, but we did not foresee the negativity of it. Nowadays, texting, sending emails, and chatting is the trend.
When you are in public places, people always hold and use their phones, iPods, laptop, tablets, and other devices or gadgets. While in some family gatherings, in front of the dining table, everyone is also holding and using their phones and having their own business instead of having chitchats or conversations with relatives.
According to the article written by Sherry Turkle, "we move from conversation to connection". It seems like people chose connection rather than conversation. It is not bad to choose a connection but forgetting conversation is the worst. Without conversation, we might lose someone and we might lose ourselves. And the only way that we can revive the dying conversation of ours is just we need to disconnect ourselves from overusing the devices that we are relying on and reconnect ourselves to other people, especially in our family through having a conversation.
